This is a superb role for a warm and caring person who has an interest in working with children .The purpose of this post is to provide speech and language therapy to service users, their families and to work as part of team. Caseloads may be specific to a client group within our services. Starting a new job can be daunting and therefore to take away some of this pressure and ensure that you are comfortable in the environment they offer a full induction and training programme.
Responsibilities:
Responsibility for ensuring the delivery of an effective and efficient Speech and Language Therapy Service through assistance in the establishment of profession specific quality standards.
To facilitate parental/family involvement in the development and maintenance of effective communication systems for child and adult service-users.
To initiate and contribute to workshops for parents and staff, on topics related to the communication needs of children with special needs.
To attend relevant courses and keep up to date with best practice in the area of communication disorders.
To assist in facilitating Individual Learning Plans, participating in reviews, contributing to the strategies for intervention for the child.
To act as a key worker for family and children.
To attend case conferences, reviews and other meetings as required.
To maintain and promote good communication and relationships with all other disciplines in the service, working within an agreed policy and code.
To engage in joint work with other members of the team e.g. parent and staff training, therapy groups and participate in trans-disciplinary programme planning, service delivery and evaluation as required.
To participate in the Service Planning Process which includes; identification and implementation of relevant service developments.
To liaise with other team members in relation to individual planning and contribute to supporting identified service-users to achieving their personal goals.
To be involved as required in the formulation of policy, procedures and guidelines at Department, unit, regional and organisational levels as appropriate;
Requirements:
Each candidate for and any person holding the post must possess the B.Sc. Clinical Speech and Language Studies or equivalent.
Candidates who obtained their qualifications outside Canada must arrange to have their qualifications validated by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.(ASHA)
Ideally have 1 years post-graduate experience.
Desirable experience in intellectual disability an advantage
Strong interpersonal settings.
