Title: Fundraising and Communications Intern


The Hutong School organizes internships in combination with Chinese classes for students, graduates and young professionals who want to gain working and living experience in China. We will organize an internship at a local or international company in Beijing, provide accommodation and teach you Chinese.

Our services include:

For our client we are currently looking for an intern for the following position:

Fundraising and Communications Intern

Starting date: January 2009

Length: 3 - 6 months

Location: Beijing

Internship description:
Main focus on fundraising and communications but will be expected to participate in all aspects of office work, including:
- Working alongside the organisation's Director, Communications Director and other staff members you would be involved in researching potential donors and trusts and writing and submitting funding proposals
-Working alongside the Communication's directore you would be involved in maintaining and developing links with potential local and international donors
- Organising and implementing exciting fundraising events both locally and internationally; for example dinner parties, legal events, charity balls and exhibitions etc, both to raise awareness of the charity and to increase their funds to support migrant children in Beijing and children in rural Sichuan
- Writing press releases and articles for quarterly newsletter
- Writing content for the website and maintaining web pages
- Researching and implementing a cost effective Income Generating Activity that would bring funds into the charity to utilise in their projects and enable a level of self-sustainability for the charity
- At times assisting in new project design and helping establish an effective monitoring and evaluation system.

Requirements:
Essential:
- Experience in fundraising and/or communications
- Good written and spoken communication skills in English
- A passion for working within community development
- Good computer skills
- Enthusiasm, dedication and a willingness to have fun
- Be able to work on your own initiative and with minimal supervision
- Good team working skills
Desirable:
- Baisc/intermediate level of Chinese
- Experience in international travel or volunteering an advantage but not essential

They currently run several community development programmes within the migrant community in Beijing where they work with women and children and in rural areas of Sichuan Province where they focus on disaster rehabilitation.
